Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for designing cutting-edge substation systems? Our client is seeking a skilled Secondary Design Engineer to join their dynamic team and contribute to critical high-voltage infrastructure projects.

Our client is a well-known engineering consultancy specializing in multidisciplinary engineering of high-volage infrastructure in the Netherlands. Currently they are on a lookout for a Senior Secondary Engineer, who will take full ownership of the secondary engineering scope within complex high-voltage substation projects. You will lead the detailed engineering phase from concept through execution, translating technical requirements into reliable, compliant, and buildable protection and control solutions.

You will define protection philosophies, develop functional specifications and control narratives, and deliver high-quality single-line, logic, schematic, and wiring diagrams. Your expertise will be essential in performing AC/DC calculations, CT/VT sizing, cable and fiber optic sizing, and ensuring accurate relay selection and specification.
A core part of your role will be the complete internal design of protection and control panels, from component specification and structured terminal allocation to internal wiring concepts and layout design. Your work will form the technical foundation for CAD/EPLAN finalization and panel manufacturing.
In addition, you will engineer auxiliary power systems and internal substation communication networks, ensuring seamless integration between primary and secondary systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, you will ensure technical excellence, compliance with international standards, and timely delivery of high-quality engineering packages that directly support critical transmission infrastructure projects.
What do you need
- Minimum 10 years of experience in secondary engineering for HV substations (up to 500kV)
- Strong background in detailed engineering
- Proven experience in panel internal design
- Expertise in wiring and schematic drawings
- Experience with AC/DC calculations
- Strong knowledge of relays
- Strong knowledge on telecom systems, especially LAN
Nice to have:
- Medium-voltage project experience
- Battery sizing knowledge
- IEC 61850 experience
- ELCAD-AUCOPLAN experience
