The Protection, Automation & Control (PAC) department consists of experienced engineers responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning secondary systems for high-voltage substations. Working in multidisciplinary project teams, the department ensures that protection, control, communication, and automation systems operate safely, reliably, and securely throughout the entire project lifecycle.

As a Senior PAC Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless integration of protection, automation, and control systems while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and cybersecurity. You will work closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver reliable secondary systems from concept through commissioning.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will coordinate the activities of PAC Engineers within your projects, monitor technical progress, and act as a trusted technical advisor for both colleagues and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, program, parameterize, and test PAC systems for high-voltage substations.
- Translate functional specifications into detailed engineering designs and implementation plans.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and support system commissioning activities.
- Develop test procedures, commissioning plans, technical documentation, and work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and industry regulations, including IEC 62443, NIS2, and ISO 27001.
- Monitor engineering quality, technical progress, and project deliverables.
- Coordinate and provide technical guidance to PAC Engineers within assigned projects.
- Collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support commissioning activities on-site, including system optimization and troubleshooting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and technical development within the engineering team.
What do you need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Protection, Automation & Control (PAC) systems or secondary systems within high-voltage environments.
- Strong knowledge of protection and control systems used in electrical substations.
- Experience with communication protocols such as IEC 61850 and IEC 60870-5-104.
- Familiarity with high-voltage equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protection relays.
- Experience with programming, configuration, testing, and commissioning of PAC systems
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards applicable to industrial control systems is highly desirable.
- Experience coordinating engineering activities or mentoring junior engineers is considered a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver practical technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Proactive, quality-driven, and capable of working independently while taking ownership of technical deliverables.
- VCA-VOL certification or equivalent is considered an advantage.
- Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are considered an advantage
