Power the world’s most critical environments as a Medior Mechanical Engineer—own end-to-end projects and design integrated energy solutions where downtime is simply not an option.
Company information
Our client is focused on energy security. They design, engineer, build, and maintain integrated energy solutions for organizations that must keep running—such as data centers, hospitals, and airports. They also support businesses that urgently need reliable power but face limited or even non-existent grid connections.
Vacancy information
As a Medior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key contributor within the design department and will be assigned to projects that you will drive from concept to execution. This is a role for someone who does not just coordinate, but truly engineers—designing, calculating, documenting, and communicating to ensure robust, reliable solutions. You will work in a project-based environment and collaborate closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure every mechanical design meets the high standards required in energy security applications.
A large portion of your work will be hands-on design. You enjoy building models, iterating designs, and translating requirements into practical mechanical solutions. The expected distribution of your time is approximately 70% 3D modelling/design, 10% calculations/analyses, and 20% internal and external communication (including meetings and stakeholder alignment). The role is predominantly office-based, and you are comfortable working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to keep projects moving.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing mechanical systems and sub-systems using advanced 3D CAD (parametric modelling) and producing supporting 2D drawings.
- Performing engineering analyses such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and, where needed, dynamic simulation.
- Executing technical calculations (e.g., load, stress, thermodynamic, and fluid dynamics calculations) to match project requirements and operating conditions.
- Optimising designs to improve performance and reduce costs (e.g., proposing alternative materials, adjusting geometry, improving layout).
- Managing project engineering from concept through implementation, coordinating with suppliers and internal departments, and answering technical questions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Creating clear, detailed technical documentation to support execution, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of techniques and processes with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.
- Technology and system exposure may include cooling water systems, ventilation and noise control, exhaust systems, gensets (diesel and generator technology), steel structures, and fuel systems. This is not “fine mechanics” aimed at high-volume serial production; our client typically delivers single-unit solutions, with manufacturability largely handled by suppliers.
Growth is an important part of this position. Our client is specifically looking for a strong mid-level profile, with the potential to grow into a senior role within this specialised field. You should be open to being paired for roughly a year with an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to learn the project-based approach and domain specifics, and then move into full independent ownership of projects.
What do you need
- Bachelor’s degree (HBO) in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering/machine building
- Experience with machinery and preferably diesel and generator technology
- Knowledge of (parts of) fuel, cooling, and ventilation systems
- Experience with engineering analyses such as FEA and/or dynamic simulations
- Strong in technical calculations (e.g., load/stress, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics)
- Proficiency with design and engineering tools such as Inventor, Vault, Navisworks, and AutoCAD
- A true team player with an independent mindset and strong ownership of results
