Our client is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Lead Engineer Mechanical Shipbuilding to spearhead the design and engineering of ship equipment for challenging maritime environments. This role is central to the technical success of projects, combining hands-on engineering expertise with team leadership and strategic collaboration.

As the Lead Engineer, you will functionally guide and coach a team of skilled engineers, providing input for performance appraisals and fostering a high-performance environment. You’ll offer expert advice during tenders, address production-related issues, and support stakeholders throughout project execution, from implementation to aftersales service.

Your responsibilities will also include identifying and resolving process and equipment bottlenecks, evaluating customer specifications, and conducting risk analyses. You’ll review and refine engineering documents, contribute to detailed Machinery & Piping plans, and oversee outsourced work. Engaging across departments, you'll provide detailed documentation and reports, while staying current on the latest tools, technologies, and engineering methods to continuously enhance project delivery.

What do you need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (e.g., Naval Architecture)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role within mechanical or shipbuilding engineering
  • Strong communication skills in English; Dutch language skills preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Residency in the Netherlands and a valid EU work visa are mandatory
